Restoration activity
Реставрация дымковских игрушек
In November, the international exhibition “Storage, restoration and promotion of cultural heritage” was held in Leipzig. Of great interest were works from the collection of the Sergiev-Posad Museum-Reserve: Dymkovo toys of the 1930s, restored at the All-Russian Restoration Center. Acad. I.E. Grabar with the use of traditional technologies (hand sculpting).
The restoration works were carried out with funds allocated by the Ministry of Culture of the Moscow Region and lasted for about a year. The young team of the ceramics department with honor coped with the difficult task of reconstructing the original form of the works: many of their parts were lost, including such significant ones as the hunter’s head and the treetop in the composition “The Tree Hunter”, author Bezdenezhnykh (Koshkina) Z.F., the hand and hairstyle of the “Gentlewoman” by authorship of E.A. Penkina.
To restore the lost parts, restorers and museum specialists conducted a joint study, during which they had to turn not only to research literature, but also to museum collections to search for analogies. The result paid off: the exhibits not only acquired an expositional appearance, but also proved to be worthy of being presented at the international exhibition.
