Museum publishing activities

The visible reflection of the Museum scientific research is publishing activity that can be divided into several periods. The first period (1919 – 1927) was connected with the Commission on the protection of history and art monuments of the Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra. The first scientific description of the ancient Lavra collections and articles on certain monuments and artists were edited at that time.

The second period (1055 – 1969) was marked by the collected works “Soobshchenia Zagorskogo muzeya” [“The Reports of the Zagorsk Museum” ] (CZM. Zagorsk, 1955, 1958, 1960), by the first basic catalogue (Nikolayeva T.V. Proizvedenia melkoi plastiki XIII – XVII cc. v sobranii Zagorskogo muzeya . – Zagorsk, 1960 [ The 13th – 17th Century Small-Size Sculptures in the Collection of the Zagorsk Museum]) and by the monograph prepared by a group of specialists “Тroitse-Sergieva Lavra. Khudozhestvennye pamyatniki” [The Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra. Artistic Monuments”, summary in French] - M., 1968.

Publications of the third period (1970- 1990) reflect the main trend in scientific research – cataloguing of the collections. At that time about 30 catalogues were released. In 1990, the Museum resumed the edition of collected works “Soobshchenia” [ “Reports”].

Publications of the fourth period (1990 – to the present time) include both traditional monographs, catalogues, reports and joint projects with other museums and publishing houses.

In 2000, there began publication of the materials, presented at the international conferences “Troitse-Sergieva Lavra v istorii, culture I dukhovnoi zhizni Rossii” [“The Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra in History, Culture and Spiritual Life of Russia”]. The recent editions include catalogues of temporary exhibitions, organized inside and outside the Museum.

A significant part of publications presents different kinds of educational and popular-scientific literature: guide-books, brochures, Museum and exhibition booklets, series of local history booklets describing the monuments of architecture, important events and historical sites of the Sergiev Posad region.
