The Exhibition “St. Sergius – an Assistant to the Entire State and to the Tsars of Russia”
The exhibition reveals the worship of Venerable Sergius by the Russian tsars, who made their famous “trinity trips” and brought precious donations to the house of “The Life-Giving Trinity”.
The exhibits of the 15th – early 21st century are dedicated to St. Sergius of Radonezh, they help to understand the significance of the greatest Person in Russian history and culture,
to comprehend many aspects of his influence on the society development and to realize the meaning of his image for each historical period. The items on display are icons, embroideries in silk, silver and golden threads, books, documents.
The exhibition also comprises portraits of Romanov tsars and tsarinas, engraved and lithographed portraits depicting Russian emperors’ visits to the Lavra in the 19th century and royal donations, beginning with the gifts of Mikhail Feodorovich - the first tsar of the Romanov dynasty. A number of paintings and embroideries are displayed for the first time after the thorough work of the Museum restorers.
